Travel: Ski the French Alps!

Calling skiers and snowboarders alike!  The height of ski season almost over, the ski resorts in the area of Alpes-Maritimes (Alps to the Med Sea) are offering specials - and there are offers for lovers of winter sports at all price levels.

Spend the day skiing the Alps or the mountains behind Nice/Cannes, spend the next day on the beach or perhaps enjoying one of the many spa resorts in the area, day after that shopping and strolling though the old town in Nice!

The Nice-Matin online paper just featured an article on the end of season ski special and some of the rates are incredible: 16Euros ($20) for an adult - 23 Alpine ski trails, 16 Nordic ski trails at L'Audibergue.

One of the premier ski resorts is Isola 2000. (http://winter.isola2000.com/)  The resort has all the amenities and the website is chock full of information - including a "blow out" special on Tuesday 8pm-12midnite (which is 2pm- 6pm EST!).  Packages are offered on line at substantial savings.

Shop for airfares on any of the travel sites; consider to fares on Virgin Atlantic and using a low-fare carrier to the Nice area such as Easyjet.com.

Hotels are plentiful in Nice and transportation to the ski areas can be sourced through the Tourist Office - always one of the most helpful places in any town - but especially Nice.  Hotels close to the Rue Messena (pedestrian area) and the Old Town (Vieille Ville) will put you in the heart of the town.  The Promenade des Anglais offers beach clubs (pay for the day), a wide boulevard to stroll and never ending places to eat.

So, there you have it: ski, sun and stroll the Cote d'Azur/French Riviera!
