Recipe: Cava Sangria

Cava Sangria
While in Barcelona, at the 7 Portes Restaurant, the menu offered a list of Sangrias.
We noticed the CAVA Sangria and said "Si, por favor"!
We attempted to make this at home when we returned. First batch was OK - and I mean just "OK".....
Today my husband made it again; it was "perfecto"! He blended the following in a pitcher:
  • 2 peaches, cut into small pieces (odd shapes are OK)*
  • 1 orange, very thinly sliced, then cut in half (skin on)
  • 1 cup of berries (he used raspberries) OR 1/2 cup Maraschino Cherries
  • 2 oranges: juiced (he used an old fashioned hand juicer)
  • 1 cup cognac (flavored - he used a passion fruit blend)***
  • Let sit for an hour for best results, but if short on time, less will do!
  • Add 1 bottle of sparkling wine (Spanish Cava, Italian Proseco, etc)
  • Add 1/3 bottle of sparkling water (he used Perrier)
  • Gently stir, add ice and serve!
  • Cava SangriaCava Sangria
*If fresh ripe peaches are not available, how about trying frozen sliced peaches? We've not tried it, but worth a try if peaches are not in season.
***If you don't have a flavored cognac, try a passion fruit flavord vodka like Alize'. alizegoldpassionVodka We've not tried it, but it may just do the trick!
