Travel: Munich and Salzburg

We've often thought about taking a trip to Germany - more specifically, Munich. When I think of Germany, I automatically think of beer, drindl dresses, men's lederhosen, and fairy tale castles. Doesn't everyone? Our German friend offered to assemble a list of places to visit, eat and stay...and with just that, we were off. We flew Lufthansa - what an experience! It was a full service flight - with free meal and beer - on an hour+ flight. Wow...we ate our meal as we flew over the snow capped Alps.
As we approached Munich, the land turned a lush green and within minutes we touched down and got ready to check it all out!
The city of Munich has a main pedestrian-only boulevard that goes on and on with shops, resturants, churches, beer halls and beautiful buildings all around.
Munich's Glockenspiel
The Glockenspiel Clock is a must - when at 12noon the bells ring and the movement of figurines tell a story. You cannot help but look and smile "the smile of a child". There is huge food market that takes place in one of the many squares and there is a strong bio/organic presence among the vendors. But first and foremost is the beer!
Beer halls and beer gardens are everywhere; all different: some rustic, some well appointed, some hidden under shady trees. No need for words - pictures say it all! And there is nothing like a train ride from Munich's central rail station for a morning adventure into Austria.
Welcome To Salzburg, Austria
No kidding! You just pick up your coffee to go and select one of the many delicious German baked goods and hop aboard. Be sure to be on time!! We've seen more than one passenger stranded at the platform for being a minute late...Germany is strict on timing! Yeah! In a few hours, you are in Austria! Austria is another country that is takes great pride in culture, history, food, beer, wine and welcoming guests to their country with big smiles. (It was also spotlessly clean!!)
After a full day of walking about, sampling food, beer and wine, the leisurely train ride home lulls you into a quiet contentment. shhhhh
