Travel: St. Paul de Vence, France

St Paul de Vence, France is set in the hills behind the between Cannes and Nice.  The charming village is known for the work of artists working in all different mediums.  Some sculpt, some draw, others paint and still others work in stones, metals and glass.  The medieval village is one huge art gallery with bits of places to eat and drink.  There are plenty of hotel options, too, in all price ranges.
During the summer months it can be a bit 'busy' so we like to visit during the off season or after the cruise tours have departed.  It is a lovely village and should be enjoyed in a slow casual manner - sipping a glass of wine while overlooking the countryside or enjoying an ice-cream/gelato while walking about.
Not too far from the center of town is an art gallery, Fondation Maeght....and for years we'd pass by and say "we must go there"...but when in France there are so many meals to savor, so many wines to sip and too many sweets to pass up.  But we did manage one day to round up our neighbors and all 6 of us headed to Vence for a fabulous lunch at Auberge des Seigneurs with a promise to visit the museum at St. Paul de Vence afterwards.  The short drive between Vence and St. Paul de Vence is a scenic one.  A stroll through St. Paul de Vence is a "must" for any visitor to the area.  The slightly steep paths wind gently around the many shops making the stroll very enjoyable.
Check out the video of our visit to the Fondation Maeght gallery; look under the Labels "Video" .  In the meantime, I've posted the link for that great restaurant in Vence, Auberge des Seigneurs, below (it's in both English and French).
Auberge des Seigneurs:  http://www.auberge-seigneurs.com/ offers you a chance to see the dining room and view a sample menu.
