Well, we covered Christmas Eve in part 1. Christmas Day menu was an Italian theme: we started with a cheese and sausage platter with our goodies from "Arthur Ave - Little Italy of the Bronx" and then we served up "Nanny's Lasagna". The welcome drink was Sgroppino. I did find several recipes on line for it, but opted to blend a few together with a heavier hand here or there for the drink...You can have only one! Dessert was a crostada di limone (lemon tart)...recipe to follow in a future post! Here is our version of Sgroppino (my brother in Venice calls it "Bianco", that's the Venetian dialect!)...
This serves 4 generous old fashioned shaped champagne glasses:
1 Bottle Prosecco
1/4 cup+ ice-cold vodka (chill in the freezer overnight)
4 generous scoops of lemon gelato (one per person)
In a bowl (with a spout) gently whisk the prosecco, vodka and gelato to just barely blend. Over blending or vigorously blending will ruin it!
Serve immediately...and sip slowly!
(Another serving option: blend the prosecco and vodka; place a scoop of gelato into each old-fashioned champagne glass and pour the voka/prosecco over it and serve with a spoon)
