Travel: From Colorado to New York

From Colorado to New York, we had the good fortune of spending the Thanksgiving week with our families.  First stop was Colorado (for a pre-Thanksgiving gathering) and, as always, the mountains were breathtaking!  It was a bit "chilly" upon arrival at the Denver Airport while we waited for our transportation to the car rental location.  Brrr.....

Once we were on our way with the rental car we had the chance to admire the mountains, white with snow and looking quite majestic against the cold, but very blue sky.  We stopped along the way to take a photo of the mountains as we passed a lake.

Another photo was taken of the sky as the sun was setting.  Canadian Geese by the hundreds have settled here and across the
golfcourse a brown fox sauntered his way while squirrels and ravens paid no attention.  Estes Park was open and anxious to greet tourists and residents alike - they area had been hit hard with the recent floods and welcomed every visitor with open arms.
Our flight to NY was a breeze despite traveling on the day before Thanksgiving.  We allowed with plenty of time to enjoy a relaxing breakfast at the Denver Airport.
We spent Thanksgiving surrounded by family and lots and lots of food (again).  This year it was a deep fried turkey and it was delicious!  But there was so much to eat!  As usual, the day ended with extended tummies, sitting on sofas and just talking.  Next day we ventured out to "The Bronx" to shop at "Little Italy" aka "Arthur Avenue".  Many tourists think of Manhattan for Little Italy, but sadly the enclave of Italian shops and restaurants is slowly disappearing.  Meanwhile, Little Italy aka Arthur Avenue in The Bronx is alive and kicking!  We still buy our bread from there, and the cheeses are the best.  Fresh pasta is still made there and the food market is always busy.  No visit to Arthur Avenue would be complete without a stop for a slice of pizza and a mini calzone.  Soooo good! We load up on goodies, package them up and ship them to ourselves via USPS!
Check under the "Videos" Label for a short clip on Arthur Ave!
Little Italy in The Bronx is located at E. 187th & Arthur Avenue.  It is near The Bronx Zoo and NY Botanical Gardens.  Fordham University is nearby and some student housing is mixed among the shops and local residences.  How lucky are they!  And not a day goes by that a minimum of 2 FDNY Fire Trucks aren't stopped for a bit of quick shopping between fire calls!  Yeah...it's that good!
